A man who volunteered for Scouts has been banned from the organisation after he was convicted for harassing his ex-partner.

Francisco Fraga was slapped with a 12-month community order during his appearance at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The 44-year-old repeatedly hurled vile abuse at his former girlfriend when the pair met weekly to drop off and collect their child.

Although he denied the allegations, he was found guilty by a jury last year.

Now, Scouts have confirmed Fraga will no longer be allowed to volunteer for them.

A spokesperson said: “As soon as we were made aware of the outcome of this case, Fraga's membership with us was cancelled and he will never be allowed to volunteer with us again.

“There is no place in Scouting for anyone who behaves in this way.

“Everyone at Scouts works to a strict code of practice to put young people first.

“We also carry out a stringent vetting of all adults who work with young people and require them to work to a strict code of practice outlined here: http://www.scouts.org.uk/safeguarding

The court heard how Fraga once called his ex-partner a prostitute in front of their young son and used other derogatory language.

This was disputed by Fraga, who said the English translation of the Polish word he used is ‘rag’.

Fraga, of Winchester Road, Southampton, pleaded not guilty to one charge of harassment without violence in 2023, but was found guilty of the offence in October of last year.

Mitigating, Oliver O’Connor said no similar incidents have happened in the last three years.

He said: “This is a man who is very pleasant and helpful, and even volunteers as a Scouts leader, and he works hard.

“In a different context, he is a pleasant man.

“And in all my time doing this job, I have never seen two parties so distrusting of each other.

“Mr Fraga is undoubtedly a good father, and a restraining order is not necessary as there have been no issues in three years.”
