The Clarendon Way Walk, organised by local hospices Naomi House & Jacksplace, is more than just a walk—it's an opportunity to challenge yourself, connect with a supportive community, and make a real difference in the lives of seriously ill children and young adults.
This event offers a variety of routes, catering to all levels of ability and ambition, ensuring that everyone can participate and achieve their personal goals. The Clarendon Way Walk takes place between Winchester Cathedral and Salisbury Cathedral through the stunning countryside on 8th June.
Jim first signed up for the Clarendon Way Walk at the age of 18, with no prior connection to the charity. But once he started fundraising, he quickly learnt about the impact Naomi House & Jacksplace made to local families.
"The fundraising pack was my first introduction to the charity and encouraged me to hit my fundraising target."
Jim describes the event as one of the best days out all year.
"It's so well-organised, and throughout the day, you meet some of the most wonderful people—friends and strangers alike. Along the way, you get chatting and cheer each other on. The pitstops are great, with people handing out squash and smiles, giving you a boost to carry on."
One of Jim's favourite aspects of the walk is the sense of community.
"Throughout the day, you meet some of the most wonderful people—friends and strangers alike. Along the way, you get chatting and cheer each other on. The pitstops are great, with people handing out squash and smiles, giving you a boost to carry on."
He also appreciates the support from volunteers and fellow walkers, which creates a unique camaraderie.
Participating in the Clarendon Way Walk is not just about the physical challenge; it's about being part of something bigger. Jim encourages anyone looking for a personal challenge to join this year.
"It's hard walking 26 miles, both physically and mentally, especially on a hot day. But the finish line is a wonderful atmosphere, with a band playing, lots of people clapping you on, and a medal being put around your neck. It makes it all real and worth it. You'll find strength you never knew you had, meet incredible people, and support a cause that truly matters. It's a day filled with joy, laughter, and the shared commitment to making a difference."
