An early years careers event was held for students at Fareham College.

The event was hosted by YMCA Fairthorne Group on March 11 and gave students an insight into apprenticeships and career opportunities within the early years sector.

Students took part in workshops, including special educational needs (SEN) sessions, and toured Fairthorne Manor Nursery and the on-site Forest School.

They also took part in archery, which helped develop essential teaching skills such as focus, while highlighting career opportunities in the activity instructor role, which supports youth development in day camps.

The event comes at a crucial time, as the early years sector continues to face recruitment and retention challenges.

With an increasing demand for skilled professionals, YMCA Fairthorne Group remains committed to fostering new talent, and equipping future educators with the skills needed to thrive.

Reflecting on the event’s success, early years director Vikki Kennesion said: "Bringing new talent into the workplace is essential for the continued growth and quality of early years education.

"At YMCA Fairthorne Group, we are passionate about growing and developing our talent.

"Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to learn and develop, which we do through structured training, and mentoring.

"With our guidance, future early years practitioners thrive, while our organisation benefits immensely from their fresh perspectives and enthusiasm."
