Sholing Junior School is gearing up to welcome a national sporting hero and help raise funds to support her training.
Serena Vincent, a record-breaking British Shot Putter, will be visiting the school on May 20 as part of a fundraising initiative by Sports For Champions UK.
The school hopes to raise funds to improve facilities and resources for students, while supporting Serena at the same time.
Sholing Junior School school intends to use a portion of the funds raised to improve facilities and resources, while the rest will support Serena and other athletes across the country.
Serena's journey in athletics began in primary school, where, after overcoming an injury, she found her passion for Shot Putt.
Her first major achievement was winning the first British gold medal in the under 23 Women’s Shot Putt at the European Throwing Cup.
She later won a silver medal at the U23 European Championships.

Both victories marked historic milestones as the first medals won by a British female Shot Putter at these respective events.
Her future aspirations include competing for Great Britain in the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the Los Angeles 2028 olympics" target="_self">Olympics.
Serena's visit will provide an opportunity for students to learn from her experiences and be inspired by her journey.
As part of the event, students will participate in a sponsored fitness circuit led by Serena.
The day will also include an inspirational talk and a Q&A session, where pupils will have a chance to interact with the star athlete.

The funds raised during this event will be allocated in a way that benefits both the school and the athletes.
Approximately 60 per cent of the funds will go towards the school’s development, while 40 per cent will contribute to the athlete fund.
This fund aids schools in less economically privileged areas and supports athletes in moments of pressing need, whether it’s recovering from injuries, procuring advanced equipment, or embarking on warm-weather training camps.
Sholing Junior School is urging all parents and local businesses to contribute to this project, which promises to enrich the education and experience of every pupil.
