Parents and pupils at St Mark’s C of E School are being kept inside in a lockdown.
It's understood a speaker is repeating "lockdown" with the gates shut at the school in Stafford Road, Shirley, Southampton.
The lockdown has since been lifted.
One parent said: "The school is (in lockdown) down at school pickup today at 3pm.

"They have shut the doors and keeping the kids because they is a police report that there is someone with a knife locally in Shirley, but not in the school.
"There is a recording saying "lockdown" over and over every second and our kids will be hiding under the tables inside scared.
"I know there are lots of shootings in America, but I think this is news, as it is scarring kids for no reason."
