Campaigners are demanding a company cuts ties with the animal testing industry.

Activists from Southampton Animal Action held a peaceful protest outside BOC Gas in Totton on Thursday.

The multinational company supplies gas to MBR Acres, a facility that breeds dogs for scientific, medical, and veterinary research.

Countless protests against the company’s actions have been held in the last three years, with Southampton protestors the latest to take a stand.

A spokesperson for Southampton Animal Action said: “MBR Acres breeds dogs for the animal testing industry.

“Puppies bred there are shipped off to labs to be poisoned as part of toxicity testing, or are bled out on site and their blood and organs are sold off to laboratories.

“Approximately 2,000 puppies a year are bred at this facility.

“There is a longstanding campaign against MBR Acres and a permanent protest site has been at their site since 2021.

“However, another part of the campaign is to target the companies that prop up MBR Acres, including BOC Gas who supply the gas to them."

They added: “Our peaceful protests against BOC involve asking them to drop their contract with MBR Acres.

“We will keep protesting until they drop the contract.”

The largescale protesting against MBR Acres and its practices have even drawn the attention of celebrities.

Pop Idol winner and popstar Will Young protested outside their site in 2021, where he handcuffed himself to their gates.
