Thousands dashed across the finish line at the popular Eastleigh 10k at the weekend.

Runners enjoyed fair conditions whilst they enjoyed the race, which is now in its 40th year.

Around 2,500 runners took off from the start line on Sunday, and almost 300 children  took part in the fun run.

Sam Mansbridge ran with a group of more than 15 friends in memory of their mutual friend John, who died earlier this year.

Sam said: "We are running on behalf of a friend who passed away at the start of the year. We just wanted to get together and do something, it does make you realise how things go.

"I have never done a 10k before. First one for me."

Matt Way and Paul Rayfield were looking forward to getting started.

Matt, who is not a regular events runner said: "Just a bit of fun, nothing serious.

"I have never run this race before, and a 10k is at the upper end of my threshold."

Meanwhile, Paul, who is 71, has run some events in the past but says he is coming to the end of his running career. He said: "It is just a happy, family event.

"The other family members have come down today.

"I am 71, I am coming to the end of my running career, this could be my last."

Race organiser Steve Collins is pleased with how the day went. He said: "We were very lucky with the weather, good running conditions.

"I think it was a very successful day. Everybody seemed very happy and enjoyed the morning, which is what it is about really.

"Thanks to everyone for making this year's Eastleigh 10k and fun run another great running event."

This year's winner is James Copeland, who crossed the line with a time of 30:41.

For the women, Sarah Winstone came in first with a time of 35:13.
