National Highways has explained two speed limits on the M27 that have puzzled drivers.
The 40mph restriction on the M27 eastbound over the Hamble Bridge have been attributed due to damage.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "The speed limit on the Hamble Bridge is for public safety following an incident which resulted in damage to the bridge parapet.
"An assessment of the damage was completed and the parts required for repair are currently being manufactured."

The 50mph restriction westbound between J11 and J12, where the underpass is located between Browning Avenue and Hillsley Road, is also due to damage.
The spokesperson continued: "The speed limit between junctions 11 and 12 is in place for public safety due to damage to a parapet which cannot be repaired due to its age and condition.
"A scheme to replace it is in development."
The restrictions will remain until repairs are completed.
