Southampton Airport has warned passengers to "allow extra time for their journey" if they are set to fly soon.

The international airport in Eastleigh posted on Facebook to let travellers know that its security screening technology is currently being upgraded.

New "Next Generation Checkpoint" scanners are being installed which is slowing operations - but there is no "exact timescale" for how long this will take.

But the airport warned that while this work takes place, passengers should "allow extra time for their journey".

In a reply to a comment on Facebook, a concerned travellers flying in April asked if there is a timeframe for the works.

Southampton Airport's account replied saying that there is no "exact timescale" but that extra time should still be left "next month".

It comes after the Echo reported last month that more than 40 jobs will be created at the airport this year when Loganair creates its new base at Southampton.

The Scottish airline will launch a new route from Southampton to Manchester from October, when two ATR-72 600 aircraft will land in Hampshire.
