Twenty years this month, the streets of Southampton came alive with the vibrant energy of Rio as 180 pupils from Redbridge Community School staged a colourful carnival parade.

The Year 7 students, dressed in dazzling costumes, danced through the city centre after collaborating with Southampton and Isle of Wight Creative Partnerships.

The project left a lasting impression, perfectly captured by then 11-year-old Tom Enright who declared it "the best experience I’ve ever had at school.”

Looking back at photos from that day, the youthful enthusiasm of the participants is palpable.

These youngsters, embracing the carnival spirit, brought a unique and joyful spectacle to Southampton.

It no doubt remains a fond memory for participants and those who saw it.
