Police are appealing for information after a drink and drug driving arrest at an Isle of Wight beauty spot.

Hampshire and IW Constabulary attended Compton Car Park, on Military Road, following a concern for welfare report at 6.20pm on Sunday, March 9.

Police received information that a passenger had grabbed the steering wheel of a black Vauxhall Corsa.

A 24-year-old man from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, possession of Class A drugs, drink driving, common assault, causing a danger to road users, and interfering with a motor vehicle to endanger road users, officers said.

He has been bailed by the force until Monday, June 9 while further enquiries are carried out. 

Police said in a statement: "We are appealing for witnesses following an incident on Military Road.

"We would like to speak to any witnesses and any motorists who have relevant dash cam footage.

"Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 44250105007."
