A TEENAGER who died after being struck by a train in the New Forest has been named.

Elliot Malcolm Jones, 16, of Waverley Road, Fordingbridge, died at Ashurst New Forest Railway Station on March 10.

The inquest into his death was opened by area coroner Nicholas Walker at Winchester Coroners' Court on Tuesday, March 18.

Mr Walker said that Mr Jones was hit by a train at the station at approximately 2.30pm.

The preliminary cause of death has been given as multiple injuries caused by a train collision.

Mr Walker adjourned the full inquest to take place at Winchester Coroners' Court on July 15, 2025.

As previously reported, rail services were delayed until 10pm while emergency services deal with the incident.

British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks just after 2.30pm today (10 March) near Ashurst Railway Station. 

"Officers, fire and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced deceased. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
