A major American burger chain will come to Southampton after planning applications were approved last week.
Wendy’s wanted to open its first location in the city in the ground floor of the vacant 17 Above Bar Street.
The restaurant chain lodged plans to replace the existing white John Anthony shopfront with a dark grey metal framed entrance way, with red beams and double-glazed automatic doors.
Documents also showed that Wendy’s wanted to put an electronic sign in the window of the old retail clothing shop.
Southampton City Council has now conditionally approved the plans, noting that the LED electronic sign must not be in operation between 11pm and 6am.

The restaurant chain - which has been serving 'quality burgers' since 1969 - currently only has one eatery in Hampshire, located in Portsmouth.
The search is still on for a general manager for the Southampton location too, with the job advert still being present on LinkedIn.
Those looking to apply need “proven experience leading people in a food service environment”, a minimum of two years of “line operations experience” and flexibility to work “44-hour work weeks”.
The general manager would be paid between £33,000 and £36,000.
Wendy's is known for serving square burgers that hang over the bun and for its 'Frosty,' which is a frozen dairy dessert similar to a milkshake mixed with whippy ice cream.
