A man has been shot in Southampton city centre in what police are describing as a "serious assault".

The man, in his 30s, was found with the gunshot wound to his arm at the junction of St Mark’s Road, Northbrook Road and Nichols Road just after 10pm last night.

He remains in a stable condition and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Hampshire Constabulary has shut several roads around Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadar Sahib while an enquiries take place and have launched an urgent probe to locate the assailant.

No arrests have currently been made.

A spokesperson said: "We do not currently believe there to be a wider risk to the public.

"Officers will remain in the area today and can be approached with any concerns, information or questions."

The spokesperson continued: "As our investigation progresses today we are keen to hear from anyone was in the vicinity of Derby Road, St Mark’s Road, Northbrook Road or Nichols Road yesterday evening shortly after 10pm.

"Did you witness anything suspicious or out of place, or did you witness the assault itself, the moments leading up to it or the aftermath? Perhaps you were driving through the area and have dash cam that may have captured something.
