Three men in balaclavas broke into a convenience shop and stole cigarettes and vapes, police said.

The men entered the One Stop on North East Road, Sholing, Southampton, at around 9.25pm last night, with cigarettes and vapes stolen.

The convenience store was closed throughout Wednesday with the shutters down.

A sign on the door from the manager reads: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are closed until further notice, apologies."

Security guards could be seen entering the building, and a lorry appeared to be delivering stock.

A woman who lives in the area said: "I hadn't heard about it. It is terrible. We live quite close by, so it is really worrying."

One man who lives in the area said: "I don't know what happened. I looked over at the shop this morning and the door was closed."

Another woman who had walked to the store said: "I wanted to shop and saw it was locked due to unforeseen circumstances. They have a lorry there for deliveries now so someone must be inside."

A One Stop spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident that occurred at our North East Road, Sholing store last night.

"We are currently supporting our colleagues at this time and continuing to help the police with their enquiries."

Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We are investigating after it was reported that at 9.25pm last night (11 March) three men in balaclavas entered One Stop on North East Road and stole a quantity of cigarettes and vapes.

"The men then left the store and continued up North East Road, away from Pembroke Road."

This comes only a few days after three different Co-op stores suffered similar break-ins.

The break-ins occurred at stores in Weston Lane, Tickleford Drive in Southampton, and Falkland Court in Chandler’s Ford.

These three incidents are being linked by police. In these incidents, cigarettes, cash and alcohol had been stolen.

It is not known if police are linking the previous Co-op break-in spree to the One Stop break-in last night.
