A person has died on the railway tracks near Winchester.

British Transport Police were called at 8.48am this morning to Winchester Station after reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics also attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

This incident has caused disruption across the rail network this morning.

South Western Railway (SWR) has said that emergency services dealing with the incident are affecting the railway between Eastleigh and Basingstoke.

An SWR spokesperson said: "Emergency services dealing with an incident is affecting the railway between Eastleigh and Basingstoke.

"Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised because of this problem.

"At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at 15:00.

"All lines are blocked and your journey is likely to take longer."
