A Sptifire flyby paid tribute to one of the last surviving members of Bomber Command, as a funeral was held for a remarkable 103-year-old former RAF hero.

The King's Colour Squadron carried Bryan Wardell’s flag-laden coffin into Wessex Vale Crematorium's chapel on March 8, as a trumpeter from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force sounded the Last Post and Reveille during the service.

More than 130 people attended the service of celebration, where the exhortation was proclaimed by Falklands Royal Navy veteran Graham Deacon, who was a friend of Mr Wardell.

Flags were held as the guard of honour saluted Mr Wardell's journey into the chapel.

At the end of the service, there was a Spitfire flypast to bring the celebration of Mr Wardell’s life to a close.
