An investigation is underway after a video, which appears to show a female being attacked, began circulating social media.

It's believed the incident took place in Hyndburn with constituency MP Sarah Smith labelling it "deeply disturbing".

The video is 80 seconds long and begins with two females on a cobbled surface, with one appearing to be pinned to the ground.

A third female then launches a kick at the individual restrained down.

Sarah Smith, Labour MP for Hyndburn, said: "I have been made aware of a deeply disturbing video circulating on social media showing a violent attack.

"As soon as I saw it, I contacted the police, and an investigation is now underway.

"This kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable, and those responsible must face the consequences of their actions.

"I hope the victim knows that the actions of bullies say everything about them and nothing about her.

"I hope she's recovering and knows there's a lot of decent people out there that care about her wellbeing."

Lancashire Police has been contacted for comment.
