"It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will stay with me forever."

After the Q&A session, Gatiss interacted with students in the classroom, discussing their creative ideas and ambitions.

He said: "It's always nice to give something back and keep connected to young people who are just starting out.

"The value of higher education is that no matter how much technology changes, there are skills to be learned and you can't just pluck those off YouTube.

"It's all about practice and training; there's a huge value in that.

"University is the place where you can have the cushion of trying things out."

The visit was hosted by Dr Mark Aldridge, an associate professor at Solent and a historian on all things Agatha Christie.

He said: "It was wonderful to welcome Mark back to the university and a particular pleasure to have him engaging with our film and television students about their projects.

"Mark offered invaluable advice and guidance, which our students really appreciated.

"This opportunity is just another example of how we ensure that our students are work-ready at the end of their studies."

Gatiss, who has also starred in films such as The Favourite and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, continues to inspire students with his wealth of experience in the film and television industry.
