Can you help us identify more stores and cars?

Join us as we take a look at the shops and vehicles of Shirley High Street and Shirley Road in the 1980s.

It was busy shopping mecca with a diverse range of stores including Woolworths, Boots, Spudulike, Dee Bee’s, Pickfords Travel and more.

The stretch of road also provided essential services with banks and building societies such as Barclays and Abbey National.

There were also many estate agents and hair salons.

The 1980s were a time of change, and this was reflected here. There was a mix of established businesses and newer ventures.

As can be seen in the pictures below:

A.

In this picture we see Atkins stationers, Plested Pies bakery and Currys electrical.

While we’re not car experts here at the Echo, we reckon we can see a Ford Sierra, a Ford Escort and a Vauxhall Astra.

Would you agree? Which others can you see?

B.

Leisure Bingo and Arrow newsagents can both be seen in this image and vehicles include a Ford Taurus and two double-decker buses.

Can you remember any of the other shops or cars?

C.

This picture includes the Nissan Dealership and consequently many Nissan cars.

There also seems to be a Fiat Panda and a Volvo 240.

D.

A Ford Sierra, Vauxhall Cavalier, Ford Escort, Renault 18 and Vauxhall Astra seem to have been captured in this picture.

Shops include Holt-Haskell Insurance, Granada televisions and C Brewer & Sons Ltd decorators centre.

Let us know in the comments below which other cars and shops you spot.
