Police are urging drivers to keep left after an M27 lane hogger failed to move over despite being ordered to by officers.

Officers in Fareham have taken to social media to remind drivers to keep left when not overtaking on the motorway.

The officer involved said: "M27 near Fareham - This driver felt sitting in lane four from Junction 9 was the best option despite clear lanes one, two and three being clear.

"A couple of headlight flashes, he failed to take notice before using our message board to advise using the correct lane and rear lights.

"The driver still decided not to adhere to the 'keep left unless overtaking' but then moved into lane two causing inconvenience to other road users."

In the UK, lane hogging falls under the offence of careless driving with police having the powers to dish out fines of £100 and three penalty points.
