It's a cultural phenomenon - and it's arriving in Southampton in less than a month's time.

These new pictures show scenes from the new UK and Ireland tour of Hamilton, the multi-award winning show set for a six-week season at Mayflower Theatre from March 18.

Eva Phillips, who grew up in Swanmore, is in the cast of Lin-Manuel Miranda's epic production.

The performer, a former member of STP Musicals in Bursledon and Southampton's Emjay School of Dance, said: "It means so much to be performing so close to home, and in what I remember as being the theatre growing up.

"I have really fond memories of visiting Mayflower Theatre when I was younger. One of my earliest memories is watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with my family. I think it was one of the first musicals I’d seen, and I had so much fun. I don’t know if it was the flying car, or the chocolate ice cream in the interval, but I was sold.

"The show speaks to people in many different ways, some come away inspired by the messages of perseverance and hope, some feel empowered by the story of revolution and new beginnings, and others simply enjoy letting the amazing storytelling take them along for the ride. We’re really proud of this production and if people are able to come along, we promise a great show."

(Image: Danny Kaan) Hamilton is the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and helped shape the country.

The score blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway – the story of America then, as told by America now.

Hamilton is the winner of 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, 7 Olivier Awards, the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Songwriter, actor, singer, filmmaker, rapper, and librettist Lin-Manuel Miranda created the Broadway musical and the soundtracks for the Disney animated films Moana and Encanto.

It runs until April 26. Tickets from mayflower.org.uk
