A women’s clothing store has closed in Westquay as the company tumbles into insolvency.
Fashion brand Quiz shut the Southampton store after a downturn in consumer demand.
The shop, on the same level as H&M and Next in the shopping centre, is one of 23 that was earmarked for closure nationwide.
The brand’s store at Whiteley Shopping Centre has also been closed by administrators.
The brand was bought in a pre-pack insolvency deal, which has seen new owners Orion save 42 of its shops.
However, administrators closed 23 shops in the UK and Ireland which were deemed “loss-making or unsustainable” by the new owner.
Only last month the company said it was searching for emergency funding amid fears cash would dry up by March.
The 23 affected shops, already closed by administrators, employed around 200 people.
As reported in the Evening Standard, the decision was made to “put the business in a more sustainable footing for the future”, according to Sheraz Ramzan, chief executive of Quiz.
