A BMW driver was stopped by police after attempting to take a damaged car up to the Midlands for repairs.

The Hampshire Roads Policing Unit halted the hopeful driver's car, which had sustained massive scarring on the front right of the vehicle.

The BMW was missing its entire front right indicator as it drove on the M27.

Hampshire Roads Policing Unit posted the incident on February 16 on social media, joking tongue-in-cheek that this would only further hurt the reputation of BMW drivers.

In the online post, the policing unit said: "While some BMW drivers have a reputation for not using their indicators, this driver took it to the extreme on the M27 in Southampton.

"They thought it was okay to drive to Birmingham for repair. RPU had other ideas.

"Prohibition notice issued and driver reported."

Road Policing unit officers in general are often constables who have previously served in other uniformed roles, like response or neighbourhood policing.

Upon selection, these constables typically take further training to enhance their driving capabilities by completing an advanced driving course as well as training tactical pursuit and containment (TPAC).

A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: "The vehicle was found driving on the M27 at 3.46pm on 16 February. It was taken to Ower Services where the driver was spoken to.

"A PG9 prohibition notice was issued and the driver reported for the offences."
