BCP Council has submitted a licensing application to sell alcohol at two of its kiosks.
Fisherman’s Walk Kiosk and Manor Steps Kiosk in Bournemouth have had applications submitted to sell alcohol until 7.30pm.
The application proposes the alcohol is sold from 9.30am until 7.30pm Monday to Friday.
However, there are conditions to ensure that Bournemouth remains a safe location to consume alcoholic beverages.
Cllr Rich Herrett, BCP Cabinet member for destination, leisure and commercial operations, said: “Our seafront is one of the most popular in the country and we recognise some of our residents and visitors sometimes like to drink responsibly as part of their day.
“We have worked closely with Dorset Police to make sure that the licences, if granted, include conditions for staff to stop selling alcohol if there is an incident nearby and that no alcohol will be sold past 7.30pm. Staff will also refuse to sell alcohol where appropriate, and will be fully trained in asking for proof of age. Alcohol will not be sold in bulk quantities either.
“I know that keeping the beach safe and clean is important to us all, so drinks will be decanted into biodegradable cups so that no glass and no single use plastics are left behind.
“We are hopeful that if the applications are approved, that alcohol sales will be up and running for those visiting us at Easter.”
