A primary school in Gosport is set to receive a major £750,000 upgrade after merging.

Peel Common Primary School in Gosport, which was formed in January after the merger of Peel Common Infant and Junior schools, is set to benefit from a £750,000 refurbishment project.

The project, funded by Hampshire County Council, will focus on improving facilities for the 210 pupils and the nursery unit, which has 26 spaces.

The upgrades will include the refurbishment of three Key Stage 1 classrooms, the installation of new toilets suitable for younger children, and the development of a nursery classroom with separate toilets, a nappy changing area, and a kitchenette.

The outdoor play areas will also be enhanced, with new fencing and a canopy for all-weather outdoor play.

The project is set to be completed by Easter.

Councillor Steve Forster, the county council’s executive member for education, said: "I am delighted that Peel Common Primary School is now up and running, and that both staff and pupils are embracing the benefits of a unified primary school.

"These improvements are the final step in the successful transition to the new school, bringing all year groups under one roof.

"The enhanced facilities will improve both classroom and outdoor learning opportunities for all ages from nursery up to Year 6."

The refurbishment project will be carried out on four existing classrooms without the need to close the school.

Measures will be put in place to ensure safety and minimal disruption to school activities.
