With her giant underwear and messy love life, Bridget Jones has become a beloved fictional character for many reasons.

Since author Helen Fielding released the first Bridget Jones book in 1996, the character has gained endless popularity with many praising the honest, sometimes awkward, life of Bridget.

In 2001 the character gained even more attention when the book was turned into a film starring Renee Zellweger in the title role and Colin Firth and Hugh Grant as love interest Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver.

Although always tight for cash, Bridget seems to be able to afford a life of pleasure with a good-sized flat directly next to Borough Market and an active social life.

But with Bridget living in her 30s in London during the early noughties, it begs the question of whether she could still live that life in 2025.

Could Bridget Jones afford her lifestyle in 2025?

In 2001, Bridget's Borough Market flat was worth £186,150, but, jump to 2025, that same flat would now be priced at £549,143.

The chances are Bridget would have been renting the flat, and according to Our Economy renting the flat today would cost between £1,500 to £2,000.

Along with living next to Borough Market, Bridget had a frequent smoking and drinking habit that would not have been cheap.

To smoke at the level of Bridget, she would have likely bought two packets of cigarettes a week.

In the earlier 2000s, a packet of cigarettes had an average price of £3.88, now a pack of 20 could cost you from £11 to £16.

As a keen drinker, Bridget would have likely spent around £2 on a 250ml glass of wine, now that same amount is around £4.95.

If Bridget was living in her 30s in 2025, then there's a high chance she would be living outside of London's Zone One and would choose a cheaper and healthier lifestyle.
