A TAWNY owl in distress was recently rescued thanks to the vigilance of a birdwatcher and the swift response of Moyles Court Wildlife Rescue.
The owl, which was possibly involved in a crash, was discovered soaking wet, motionless, and perched precariously on a low branch overhanging a fast-flowing stream during daylight hours, an unusual sight for this nocturnal species.
The sighting was reported by a birdwatcher from Blandford Lakes, who not only raised the alarm but also guided rescuers to the owl’s exact location.
A dedicated team member quickly attended the scene, safely captured the owl, and transported it to the wildlife hospital for urgent care.
Upon arrival, the owl underwent an immediate assessment. Initial triage revealed the need for fluid therapy and warmth, leading to her being placed in an incubator to dry its waterlogged feathers and stabilise its condition.
Further tests and examinations will be conducted once it has recovered from the initial shock and exhaustion.
