A Southampton-based higher education institution is setting out its new ten-year plan as it looks to become the leading practice-led university in the UK.
Some 20 years on since being granted university status, Southampton Solent University has developed a new ‘vision’ plan in partnership with students, staff and stakeholders.
The university hopes to continue creating a ‘multiversity,’ which encourages intergenerational learning between the traditional 18-21 student demographic and mature students with different skillsets and experiences.
Solent’s plan also says that the institution will look to utilise the East Park Terrace campus’ city centre location to drive growth, innovation and inward investment into Southampton.

The university also looks to continue to develop the Warsash Maritime School, the only maritime training centre of its kind in the world.
Vice-Chancellor of Southampton Solent University, James Knowles, said: “As an institution, Southampton Solent has constantly evolved since its early days as a School of Art more than 100 years ago.
“That is no different today, as we continue to embrace the changes needed to support our students and staff, whilst putting a strong focus on our local footprint.
“Our new strategy is ambitious and innovative. Embracing a modern, practice-led style of teaching ensures every student graduates from Solent equipped with the skills to meet their potential and be ready for the future.

The university - which offers over 200 qualifications - is also planning to unveil a renewed civic charter, giving local partners the opportunity to work towards common community goals.
Solent won the Office for Students’ Teaching Excellence Framework Triple Gold award in 2023 and continues to drive a ‘practice-led learning’ philosophy.
