Residents, businesses and other stakeholders are being asked to help shape the future of housebuilding in the New Forest.

New Forest District Council (NFDC) has launched a call for views as part of its latest Local Plan consultation.

The consultation, which is at the 'Issues and Scope' stage, is the first step in creating the next Local Plan.

This plan will guide future development and aims to create a community where people want to live and feel a sense of belonging.

NFDC has requested its cabinet's approval for a six-week consultation period starting on February 5.

This consultation will seek input from the community and stakeholders on the issues the Local Plan should address.

The consultation will examine key topics including housing needs, health and wellbeing, environmental protection, and sustainable transport.

However, specific development sites and policy proposals are not included at this early stage.

By taking part, residents can help shape a balanced plan that mirrors local priorities and challenges.

Councillor Derek Tipp, portfolio holder for planning, said: "The Local Plan is a vital document that shapes the future of our district.

"We want as many people as possible to get involved and help us create a plan that meets the needs of our communities while protecting the unique character of the New Forest."

He acknowledged that some topics might raise concerns, with the government placing a strong emphasis on housing numbers.

However, the consultation process aims to gather essential feedback to ensure these challenges are tackled collaboratively and transparently.

The council will host 'drop-in' sessions at various locations, providing residents with the opportunity to discuss the Local Plan directly with officers.

Specialist digital engagement tools will also be used to reach as wide an audience as possible.

All consultation information, including the dates of the drop-in sessions, will be published on the NFDC website.
