A six-year-old boy has told a jury of the moment a “bad man” led him into a wooded area and offered to expose himself.

Jurors were shown a police-recorded interview where the child recalled being approached by an unknown driver in a street near Hedge End.

Southampton Crown Court heard the man - alleged to be 19-year-old Jayden Smith - spoke to the child in the street three times and encouraged him to get into his car.

The child refused but was taken hand in hand to a wooded area by Smith who then asked the child to expose himself, and offered to do the same, prosecutors said in court.

Opening the trial on Monday, prosecutor Mark Ashley said Smith spoke to the victim several times before taking him to the woods.

He said: “Smith turned up and engaged with (the child) on the evening of July 3, 2024, asking (him) questions like ‘do you know where my sister is?’ and ‘where can I park?’ each time he drove back to them."

Mr Ashley said Smith approached the boy a fourth time, exited his car, and the pair walked towards a wooded area.

In a police interview shown to the court, the child said Smith was a “bad man” and said he touched his hands and was holding them.

“I was telling the man how to get to the forest and where he could park”, he said.

The boy added: “I cannot hold strangers’ hands, only the hands of people I know.”

He told officers how Smith initially told him to get into his car, to which the victim said no.

The boy said: “The man then got out of his car when I was off my bike by the woods.

“I did not ask to go into the forest with him.”

He told police how, when in the woodland, Smith asked him about his genitals, before then asking the boy if he wanted to see his own.

The boy told him no before leaving the area with Smith, the court heard.

Smith, of Blendworth Lane in Harefield, Southampton, denies attempting to incite a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity, and attempted kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence.

The trial continues.
