A busy road has been partially reopened while Southern Water wait the delivery of a part to repair a burst water main.

Southern Water has confirmed that a clip is needed to repair the damaged main on Romsey Road, Cllr Nick Adams-King, leader of Hampshire County Council, has said.

The bespoke clip will be manufactured and delivered to the site, which Cllr Adams-King said should "hopefully be available for Wednesday".

In the mean time, the road, which was due to be closed for two weeks, will be partially reopened to minimise disruption.

Cllr Adams-King said: "Hampshire Highways have arranged that Southern Water will also open the road southbound only (Romsey to Southampton) as they can reduce safety zones while works cannot continue.

"A diversion route will remain in place northbound (outbound from Southampton)."

The works are taking place on Romsey Road, closing it between Bakers Drove and Horns Drove.

Cllr Adams-King previously objected to the closure, calling the length of the disruption on the major route "frankly unacceptable".
