Seven Hampshire fire crews rushed to Warsash to surround a blaze at a thatched roof cottage tonight, and more will stay overnight as the incident continues to be scaled down.

Crews from Hightown, Cosham, Portchester, Fareham, Botley and St Mary's rushed to Hook Park Road after being called shortly after 6pm.

No casualties were involved, but the roof of the two storey building was completely engulfed in the fire - forcing police and ambulance services to send support vehicles.

One Facebook commenter said: "I knew something wasn't right. Hopefully they get it under control and everyone is okay."

At 8.10pm, fire services confirmed to the Echo that the fire was surrounded by seven fire engines and that the response would start to be scaled back.

More fire crews were called out around this time, but were sent back while en route as they were no longer needed.

Hampshire fire took to social media to ask residents to stay away from Hook Park Road as multiple emergency service vehicles remained at the scene.

Another update came at 10.30pm, when the fire brigade confirmed that the incident was being scaled down further.

Relief crews from Basingstoke, Southsea and Havant remain at the scene to work overnight, taking over from the seven crews who first arrived at the emergency.

This was not the only fire around Southampton tonight, as a vehicle blaze on the M27 caused gridlocked traffic eastbound near Junction 8 and 9.
