ROMSEY Town Council has decided against objecting to plans to make alterations to a town pub.

The Stonegate Group has applied to Test Valley Borough Council for permission to alter the Hunters Inn, in Winchester Hill.

The alterations include retaining the trade kitchen and external fridges, alterations to the roof to remove polycarbonate sheets to replace them with a flat roof, and alterations to fencing and fencing for gas cylinders.

At a meeting of the Romsey Town Council planning committee on Thursday, January 9, civic chiefs decided against objecting to the plans.

Cllr Russell Theron said: “As an ex-pub owner I always support pub work. We should support them and help them hopefully extend (the pub’s) life.”

Cllr John Parker said: “I know the conservation officer was not happy with (the application) because it is a listed building.

“I think, whilst there are some clauses, they can be overcome and I think we should support it.”

The committee voted not to object to the plans.
