A former Saints player has been fined more than £13,000 for speeding in his Range Rover.

Greater Manchester Magistrates' Court heard that winger Nathan Redmond, who made 195 appearances for Southampton between 2016 and 2022, scoring 21 goals, exceeded the 40mph speed limit on the A5103 Princess Parkway in Northenden, Manchester, on October 9 in his 73 plate car.

30-year-old Redmond, of Dorridge, Solihull, pleaded guilty, but did not attend the hearing on Wednesday (January 8).

He had his licence endorsed with six points and was fined £13,384, plus a surcharge to fund victim services of £2,000 and costs of £120, totalling £15,504.

Redmond began his career with Birmingham City, his hometown club, representing England at youth levels, and played once for the senior England team, in 2017.

He was named fans and players' player of the year following the 2018/19 season after helping Saints avoid relegation from the Premier League and scored and provided an assist in a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter final in 2021. He now plays for Championship side Burnley.
