An independent Mexican restaurant and takeaway is celebrating its 13th birthday today.

Mexigo on London Road was Deliveroo's most popular takeaway location in November 2023, and the burrito joint is well-known across the city for strong Mexican flavours.

The restaurant's owners posted on Facebook today: "Today marks 13 incredible years since Mexigo opened its doors, and we couldn’t be prouder to still be serving the amazing city of Southampton.

"From the very first burrito to the hundreds of thousands we’ve rolled since, this journey wouldn’t have been possible without YOU, our incredible customers.

"Your loyalty, support, and love for what we do mean the world to us. Every visit, every taco, every kind word - it’s because of you that we’re here today.

"Here’s to even more good vibes and yummy food going forward. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

The restaurant is also known for the 'Badass Burrito' challenge - a 3kg dish containing a choice of chicken, pork, beef or veggie chilli plus standard burrito ingredients and hellfire hot sauce.

The record for the challenge is currently held by competitive eater Leah Shutkever.
