A refusal to give permission for the remodelling of a 1970s home in Old Bursledon has been upheld at appeal.
Eastleigh Borough Council denied Ms S Hoare's request to alter the existing roofs of Hacketts, High Street, to create a second-floor extension with a flat roof, remodel the exterior, and add more glass panel windows.
Now the decision has been upheld by after a site visit by an inspector appointed by the Secretary of State.
The inspector decided the changes would negatively affect the Old Bursledon Conservation Area and nearby listed buildings.
The Old Bursledon Conservation Area, characterised by traditional buildings and green spaces, was deemed to be at risk of losing its 'rural charm' due to the proposed changes.
The inspector noted that while modern flat roof designs can be suitable in certain contexts, the proposed changes at Hacketts would not fit well with the existing environment.
The inspector also noted that the increased height and bulk of the building would make it more noticeable.
