Positioned directly next to St Denys railway station, a pub on the corner has perfected the blend between protecting heritage and building for the future.
Woodies at the Junction Inn opened November 2023 after a major refurbishment maintained the pub’s historic features but breathed life into the building, which had been closed since August 2022.
The pub has been a watering hole since 1876, and dark greens and browns ooze a traditional class, with rustic stools and stained glass in a sheltered area in the garden giving off an old-school vibe.
But the food and drink on offer are far from outdated – with unique choices on tap such as the Chinese beer Lucky Buddha or a selection of real ales from Salisbury’s Hop Back Brewery.
Lucky Buddha is a rare sight on tap in the UK, but not at Woodies at the Junction Inn. (Image: Woodies at the Junction Inn) “We’re one of the first places I know to get Lucky Buddha on tap,” landlord Connor Miles said.
“But we’ve now got Budweiser’s Budva Nealko 0% Czech lager on tap too. For Dry January, I’ve got one on tap, a non-alcoholic cider, prosecco, gin, rum, all 0%.
“You don’t need to come to a pub and have to drink anymore, and we’ve got a proper selection for that.

"We have a beautiful interior in such a historic building, it’s got such a story and culture behind it. We’ve got a darts board inside and out, loads of games, we’re a nice community pub."

Connor says that their secret to a good roast is by keeping it simple and using high-quality ingredients with an experienced chef that knows how to bring the best out of the meat.

Plus, an open fire pit outside also brings that relaxed and familial feeling.

Connor brings the community together with quizzes, television sports and regular live music.
Plus, being right next to St Denys station, the pub acts as a fantastic waiting room for football fans making their way to St Mary’s Stadium.
