A family-run fish and chip shop is getting closer to winning a top award - as it reveals it could be set to feature in a documentary.

The Lee family from J Henry’s Fish & Chips in Hedge End has spend the last year amassing millions of view online with their creative TikTok and Facebook videos.

The team has now been recognised in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2025 for reaching the top three of the Digital Marketing Award category.

The shop hasn't spent a penny on marketing, doing it all themselves.

Their most viral stunt saw manager Sonny Lee batter a Greggs steak bake - reaching more than 1.5 million views.

It was such a hit that it even featured on This Morning with Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

Greggs themselves even replied to the video and have contacted Sonny to say they want to speak about collaborating in their next marketing meeting.

Sonny told the Echo: “We have done some amazing things with our marketing strategy – all while we have never spent a penny.

“We managed to get into six national newspapers, Sky News, ITV News, GB News and Heart Radio.

“It just goes to show if you put your mind to something you don’t need a big budget, I don’t think there’s another chip shop out there that has had as much publicity as we have these last few months.

“I would also add that this has all been achieved without any of us having a single qualification in marketing and many of us left school aged 10-11, without a single GCSE.

“I truly believe that if you put your mind to something and you want it hard enough you can achieve it.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, London for a daytime ceremony on February 26 where this year’s winner will be crowned.

Sonny added: “We have people from all over the world visiting us just to come in and see us and try our food, they want to have photos with the family and have a chat.

“The team and I have also been speaking to TV production companies about featuring our family in a real life documentary show, showing life in a busy chip shop and what it’s like working in our family business.”
