Dozens of schools are set to be closed today due to the water outage affecting parts of Southampton, the New Forest, Romsey and Eastleigh

It comes as an issue at Testwood Water Treatment Works led to an automated shutdown of the reservoir due to water quality concerns. It has been refilled and supply is expected to be restored to some of tens of thousands of properties affected later today.

In Southampton, nine schools are currently listed as closed due to utilities failure. They are Upper Shirley High School, Shirley Warren LC Primary and Nursery School, Holllybrook Junior School, Hollybrook Infant School, Compass School, The Cedar School, Fairisle Infant and Nursery School, Sinclair Primary and Infant School and Fairisle Junior School.

Hampshire County Council have listed 24 schools which are currently closed.

Halterworth Primary School said it would attempt to open at 11am, depending on the developing situation, but the others all say they are unable to open today due to a lack of water supply.

The schools affected are Calmore Infant School, Calmore Junior School, Hounsdown School, Oak Lodge School, Hythe Primary School, Manor Church of England Infant School, Nursling C of E Primary School, Hazel Wood Infant School, Greenwood School, Bartley C of E Junior School, Cadland Primary School, North Baddesley Infant School, Testwood School, Marchwood C of E Infant School, Wildground Infant School, Wildground Junior School, North Baddesley Junior School, Blackfield Primary School, Foxhills Infant School, Foxhills Junior School, Orchard Junior School, Netley Marsh C of E Infant School, and Fawley Infant School.

Southern Water said they have supplied dedicated tankers to Southampton General Hospital and Princess Anne Hospital, which are also affected by the issue.

The company apologised for the disruption, saying it hopes to start restoring supply throughout today (Thursday), but the issue may not be fully resolved until the weekend.
