Hundreds of homes across Southampton, Eastleigh, Romsey and the waterside area have been left without water since this morning, with schools forced to close.

LIVE UPDATES: Hundreds of homes without water as Southern Water apologises

It's led to Southern Water issuing an apology and setting up a bottle water station at Places Leisure on Passfield Avenue in Eastleigh.

But roads around the area have become congested with delays on approach.

Our reporter on the scene said: "The traffic around Places Leisure is absolute gridlock.

"I think anyone living within walking distance and is able to carry bottles should probably go to the shops rather than try and attempt to drive to Places Leisure."

According to Google Maps, Passfield Avenue, Leigh Road and Woodside Avenue are particularly busy.

A spokesperson for Southern Water said: "We’re sorry that customers in parts of Southampton, Eastleigh, Romsey and the New Forest are without water. This is due to a technical issue at Testwood Water Supply Works. Teams have been on site since the early hours of the morning working to resolve the issue."
