A golf club has donated more than £8,000 to a children’s cancer charity based in Southampton.
The senior section of East Horton golf club annually raises money for a chosen charity – with Abby’s Heroes being the captain’s selected charity for 2024.
Abby’s Heroes provides help and support to children and their families who come under the care of the Piam Brown and teenage and young adults’ wards of Southampton General Hospital.
These wards specialise in treating children and young people suffering from cancer.

During the year the senior’s section of around 90 golfers over the age of 55, at East Horton Golf Club, have raised money by raffles, a charity auction of donated golfing equipment, and generous personal donations, from both within and outside the section.
On Monday, December 9, at the club’s senior section’s annual presentation lunch the 2024 seniors captain, Peter Newman, presented the CEO of Abby’s Heroes Sally Randall with a cheque for £8,039.74.
In thanking the section for the donation, she explained that it would help to fund a family welfare officer supporting the families of children and young adults in both wards for an entire year.
