A Southampton school has received a £300 donation to refurbish a pool table used by students.
The Polygon School – an all-boys secondary school that caters for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health conditions – received the generous donation from the Mayflower Village pub in time for Christmas.
It comes after the school appealed to local businesses after the pool table fell into disrepair, with the school unable to fund the refurbishment on their own.
The pool table is used by students at an off-site centre adjacent to the school called Morris House, which acts as a safe space for pupils to access during break and lunch periods.

Nick Atkinson, a PE teacher at the school, praised the Mayflower Village pub for their donation and said it means the students can realise there are “people out there who are interested in what they do even if they might not meet them.”
He said: “It means the boys can feel more part of the community and realise that there are people out there who are interested in what they do even if they might not meet them.
“For us as a school, we are hugely appreciative of the staff at the Mayflower Village; their generous donation means our boys can work hard in their learning as the pool table is an essential aid to help them engage and decompress between academic sessions.”
