Shirley residents have been left frustrated by plans to turn a former motorcycle showroom into a new takeaway restaurant.
The old Yamaha Parkroad Motorcycles store in Shirley Road has been a graffitied eye sore for the past four years, but now could become a takeaway.
Planning permission to turn the top floor of the building into two flats was previously approved with the promise of keeping the ground floor for a shop, café or restaurant.
If accepted, a new takeaway would be brought onto the busy stretch of road near Foyes Corner.

The original application was submitted November 29 and there are currently six objections, which question where customers would park when picking up their food.
One commenter said: “Another restaurant/takeaway with no parking will lead to even more inconsiderate parking around the Shirley Road/Lisbon Road junction, which causes visibility issues and obstructions for vehicles using the junction making it dangerous for all road users and pedestrians.
“Customers will have no other option than to park in the very few permit holder spaces on Lisbon road, which are already very limited and are abused by customers of existing local businesses.
“Commercial waste bins are likely to be kept out on Lisbon Road, as is the case currently with the restaurant on the corner, causing further obstructions to vehicular traffic and pedestrians.”
No proposed opening hours have been included in the application.
Another objector said online: “Limit the hours to 11pm in order to protect the residential amenities of the people living in the adjoining Lisbon Road.”
This is not the first time that developers have wanted to make radical changes to the building on 156 Shirley Road.

Plans were approved in December 2021 for the former motorcycle shop to be partly demolished in order to make way for new homes in its place.
Two two-bedroom, one four-bedroom and a three-bedroom home had been given the green light but the development never came to fruition.
The building was not demolished and in 2022 a new application was submitted to the council to see the retail unit retained on the bottom floor.
The retail unit would now be used as a takeaway if these new plans go through.
