The most popular baby names in Southampton, the New Forest and surrounding towns have been revealed.

New data from the Office of National Statistics shows names parents picked the most for their children in 2023, showing little changes from 2022.

In Southampton, Olivia was unsurprisingly the most popular girls name, having been the top girls name nationally since 2016.

Leo and Noah were joint for most common boy name, while the New Forest and Fareham went for Henry.

In Eastleigh, Oliver took first place and in Test Valley it was George.

Gosport’s favourite baby boy name was Noah.

For girls, Florence was the most popular girls name in Test Valley, Winchester and Gosport.

Sophia was number one in Fareham and in Eastleigh, Freya took top spot.

All data is collected by the Office of National Statistics and is based on the mother’s usual area of residence.

Regionally, Olivia was the top name in five out of nine regions, including the South East.

Noah was the most popular name in the East Midlands, East of England and the South East.

Olivia was also the most picked name nationally for girls and has been since 2016.

The top three girls names - Amelia and Isla join Olivia - have been unchanged since 2022.

For boys, the most popular name was Muhammed, overtaking Noah which was the most popular in 2022.

The name Noah sits in second place while Oliver is third.

Muhammad was the second most popular name in 2022, and has been in the top 10 most popular names for baby boys since 2016.

New entries to the top 100 include Hazel, Lilah, Autumn, Nevaeh and Raya for girls, as well as Jax, Enzo and Bodhi for boys.

The popularity of some names based on the time of year a baby was born, as in December for example, Holly, Robyn and Joseph were more popular.

Names like Summer and Autumn were also picked more during their respective seasons.
