Police have still been unable to identify a man found dead next to a busy road in Southampton.

Officers have now released an e-fit image as they continue to try to identify the man, found in a wooded area on April 19 at around 6.50pm on The Avenue, near the junction of Burgess Road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and Hampshire Constabulary says he died in non-suspicious circumstances.

Initially police appealed for information in October in relation to distinctive tattoos which the man had, including a skull with a top hat shaded in on his upper left arm and a flower with a ribbon wrapped heart on his right arm.

He also had a phoenix tattoo on the inside of his left arm.

Police have now released an e-fit image in hopes that somebody recognises his face.

The man is described as white, of skinny build, approximately five-feet eight-inches tall and approximately 60 years old.

He had short white hair, a long grey beard and was wearing a red hoody, a dark coloured t-shirt and a walking stick when located.

Despite working with homeless shelters and local street pastors, police have not been able to identify the man.

Detective Constable Holly Gillespie said: “We appreciate that the discovery of the man’s body was some time ago now, however, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to identify the deceased.

"I want to urge people to think carefully about their neighbours or people they see regularly in Portswood or the surrounding area.

"Maybe you haven't seen someone in the last few months that you regularly see in and around the local area and matches the description of the deceased.

"Anything that comes to mind, no matter how small you think it may be, we want to hear from you, as it could be vital in allowing us to make contact with this man's family.”
