An “exceptional” special school has been rated “outstanding” by inspectors.
Lakeside School in Chandler’s Ford welcomed Ofsted inspectors from October 16 to 18.
The day and residential school educates boys aged 10 to 16 who experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
The report has paid particular praise to their inclusive education approach that benefits students “immensely”.
Inspectors found students choose to stay in the boarding house, with one student describing it as “unreal”, adding that the “staff are great”.
It was noted that all boarding students have “significantly exceeded expected targets” and goals.
“This is beautifully captured in students’ transition folders and reflects the skilled work carried out by staff in helping students achieve their successes”, inspectors said.
Students also adapt to positive change at a pace suited to their needs.
The relationships between staff and students were also noted, with trust at the centre of such relationships.

Inspectors said students behave “impeccably” in the boarding house, and those who are ready to learn independence skills are given careful support by staff.
Elsewhere in the report, inspectors praised the school’s approach to emotional intelligence.
It reads: “Staff spend time talking with students about their views, wishes and feelings.
“They encourage students to share their thoughts and feelings using various methods, including poetry.
“Some boarding students’ poetry and powerful reflections have been published.
“This approach is inspiring a passion for English literacy.”
The inspectors added: “Students and staff feel valued, and there is a shared ethos of togetherness and respect.”
Speaking on the report, a spokesperson for the school said: “Hampshire County Council, SEN Managers, Lakeside Governing Body, the Headteacher, all staff, pupils and parents are very proud of this excellent result that confirms the best possible support and outcomes for our young people.
“Although the success and effectiveness of any school (maintained, academy/independent) cannot just be judged in Ofsted terms, the track record for this category of special needs school over so many years is quite unique by any measure and ought to feature in the Guinness Book of World Records.”
In the last 12 years, Lakeside has achieved 11 Outstanding (overall and in all categories) Residential Ofsted Inspection outcomes.
