More ferry services to the Isle of Wight have been axed for 'essential maintenance' this week after Red Funnel issued an apology for disruption throughout Storm Darragh.

The 60mph winds brought by the storm saw the vehicle service between Southampton and East Cowes out of action for the majority of Saturday and Sunday, with the ferries being stuck shoreside for the entire day on Sunday until 6pm.

While the Red Jet passenger service operated normally on Sunday, only a handful of journeys ran on Saturday afternoon due to adverse weather conditions.

Operators have now confirmed more services will be be axed on Wednesday due to essential maintenance required on the Red Osprey.

A revised timetable has been issued for Wednesday, with services departing Southampton at: 3am, 6am, 9am, 12midday, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm, 11.55pm.

Services will leave East Cowes at 1.30am, 4.30am, 7.30am, 10.30am, 1.30pm, 4.30pm, 7.30pm and 10.30pm.

Red Funnel Operations Director Leanna Lakes apologised for disruption during high winds, saying that the safety of passengers and staff were top priority.

She said: “Due to the severe impact of Storm Darragh, we, along with many other transport providers, faced significant disruptions to our timetable throughout the weekend.

"The high wind speeds and adverse weather conditions, across the Solent, impacted our hi-speed and vehicle ferries differently, meaning each cancellation was risk assessed on specific route and vessel basis.

"We understand that these cancellations disrupted many weekend plans, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused."
