A MAJOR road closed for much of the weekend reopened to traffic this morning.
The A34 north of Winchester was closed to allow for emergency tree felling by National Highways.
The closure caused widespread traffic congestion in Winchester as drivers diverted off the A34 onto local roads in and around the city centre.
It was not clear how many trees were felled or cleared by contractors and whether any trees had fallen during the storm.
The road was reopened at 6am.
The works came only two weeks after a motorist was killed when a tree fell on his vehicle on the A34 southbound between Kings Worthy and Winnall on Saturday November 23.
