Fareham Borough Council has earmarked funds to aid pensioners hit by the loss of winter fuel payments.
Starting from September 9, the scheme will provide a discount on the 2024/25 council tax for eligible low-income households.
The initiative, available on a first-come, first-served basis, offers a maximum £200 reduction per household.
To qualify, pensioners must have lived in Fareham since September 9, be council tax payers, receive means-tested benefits, but not Pension Credit.
Cllr Simon Martin, executive leader of the council, said: “Following the Government’s plan to cut the winter fuel payment, I have asked officers to stand ready to help the most vulnerable in our communities that will be directly affected by this cut. The Council will be allocating specific funding for this scheme, using revenue reserves, as part of finalising this year’s revised budget.”
Applications, open until February 28, 2025, can be made online at fareham.gov.uk or by calling 01329 824656.
